Fund Raiser

As many as 400 families, pre-identified by Challengers Boys & Girls Club, will attend the launch of Feed and Read – an interactive and kid-friendly food and education experience. More than 800 backpacks filled with school supplies, books and snacks will be distributed to children attending the event. All families will receive a 25-pound box of food and a 15-pound box of essentials (such as shampoo, conditioner and personal care items) from Feed the Children and StarKist®.

Hundreds of local residents are joining forces to fight lung cancer, united in the belief that surviving lung cancer should be the expectation, not the exception. The San Diego Free to Breathe 5K Run/Walk and 1-Milke Walk support Free to Breathe, a lung cancer research and advocacy organization dedicated to increasing lung cancer survival. Last year, community members, teams, and companies across the region supported the San Diego Free to Breathe 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Walk by raising $53,000.

Little Italy's biggest party, Ferragosto, returns for its next big bash, “Wild Western: Little Italy’s Biggest Party Goes Denim and Diamonds,” from 6:00 p.m. to midnight with a VIP reception starting at 5:00 p.m. Guests are invited to Little Italy’s Amici Park for an evening that calls for attendees to dress-up in their best western gear and enjoy an interactive experience with wild western themed entertainment, a Western style BBQ, casino games, a rodeo, live music and more.

Join Fashion Week San Diego for a culinary trip through some of fashion’s chicest hotspots – LA, Mexico, France, and Korea. For the event, Chef Ingrid from Cusp at Hotel La Jolla has curated a 4-course menu, each with a cocktail pairing, featuring cuisine from this year’s selection of fashion-forward cities. Partial proceeds of all Culinary Couture tickets will go back to the FAB Authority, a non-profit that supports emerging fashion, art, and creative business entrepreneurs. New Directions for Women will host its annual Community Open House and very first 'Showers of Love' baby shower. Friends, neighbors, addiction treatment professionals, Alumnae, and all supporters of recovery in our community are invited to celebrate the nonprofit's 40th year of transforming the lives of women, children, and their families. Festivities will include yummy eats, an interactive photo booth, balloons and face painting as well as chair massages! Informational tours of the treatment facility will be given by patients and staff. Complimentary valet parking will be provided. The Nautica Malibu Triathlon Presented by Equinox Benefitting Pediatric Cancer Research is coming back for its 31th annual year. The triathlon raises money for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Pediatric Cancer Research Program and hosts some of the world’s finest athletes, philanthropists and celebrities. Last year $1.3 million was raised and we’re hoping to raise even more this year!

For 26 years the Susan G. Komen ® Orange County Race for the Cure has been the largest, most powerful, and beautiful event uniting the community to celebrate and honor breast cancer survivors in a fun-filled day for the whole family. The event raises significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, commemorates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle to the disease. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised stays in our community to help fund local programs like screening, diagnosis and treatment services and patient navigation programs.  The remaining 25 percent supports the Susan G. Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles (ALZGLA) will hold its popular annual fundraiser, walk4ALZ® on Sunday, October 29th. The walk will start and end in Century Park, in Century City, and is expected to draw a crowd of more than 2,000 participants and supporters.  A fun-filled morning for the whole family, walkers this year are encouraged to parade in their Halloween costumes, and stay for the walk4ALZ costume contest. This year, walk4ALZ hopes to raise $500,000 in donations. All proceeds benefit ALZGLA, the only local, full-service, nonprofit with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
