The La Jolla Tour d’Elegance presented by Porsche San Diego has been a remarkable addition over the years to the prestigious weekend experience at the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance. In the early years of the event, the Tour started as a simple idea of having a road rally to showcase cars and the people that collect them, and has since grown to become one of the most beautiful events of the weekend. In 2019, the La Jolla Tour d’Elegance will explore the iconic, must-see landmarks that make up San Diego’s spectacular coastline and one of San Diego’s most exclusive private collections.
Tour participants start their day by delighting their palate with a variety of beverages and breakfast snack as they check in at the beautifully renovated dealership of Porsche San Diego. As one of the only Porsche Exclusive Flagship Dealers in the Country, this spectacular grand showroom incites awe as it features a range of new to classic Porsches that all attendees will have ample time to explore. As the excitement of the tour winds up, groups will be split by classic and modern cars, making it a fun and enjoyable Tour for each car owner to show off the performance and craftsmanship of their spectacular vehicles. Porsche San Diego is ready to welcome Tour participants with a world-class experience by living up to their motto, “Let Us Feed Your Porsche Passion” on the morning of Saturday, April 13th.
Tour participants will then head to the second stop at the Only Yesterday Museum, which is home to a magnificent stable of classic autos spanning from the 1930s to the present. The La Jolla Tour d’Elegance will give a very rare and unique opportunity to view one of the most incredible collections of automobiles.
The Tour will then drive along the Del Mar coastline, passing by the iconic luscious green golf courses of Torrey Pines and through the quaint Village of La Jolla. Continuing along San Diego’s beloved beaches of La Jolla, Pacific Beach and across the beautiful bridge of Mission Bay, the Tour will reach its’ third stop in Ocean Beach—Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Sunset Cliffs is a San Diego staple for visitors to get an up-close and personal panoramic view of the natural beauty that makes up the Point Loma peninsula’s western shoreline. Here participants can take in the expansive ocean views that make up the 1.5-mile-long shoreline park before the Tour continues to the third stop down the Point Loma peninsula to its’ southern tip at the Cabrillo National Monument. Along with sweeping views of the Pacific, Point Loma naval base, downtown San Diego and Coronado skylines, this remarkable monument exhibits a colossal part of San Diego’s history. The monument is home to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, a San Diego icon since 1854, and a towering statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo—who led the first European expedition to explore what is now the west coast of the United States, discovering San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542.
The charming historical journey of San Diego will continue as Tour participants pass through the urban roads of Balboa Park, a 12,000-acre landscape filled with an amazing combination of culture, science, art and nature. Tour participants will be treated to a unique variation of the park’s whimsical gardens and architecture before continuing their journey over the iconic Coronado Bridge to the Hotel Del Coronado. This American treasure was built in 1888 by Elisha Babcock, Jr., and Hampton L. Story and was designated a National Historic Landmark of the United States in 1977. The architectural masterpiece has been a living legend for over 130 years, serving as a destination “resort” to wealthy clientele before the term existed and hosting celebrities, royalty, U.S. presidents and vacationers for generations.
After the magnificent drive through San Diego’s most notable sightseeing hot spots, Tour participants will be treated to a culinary journey through Italy as they step inside Il Fornaio Coronado for a decadent Italian lunch. The award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique dining experience, highlighted by a stunning view of San Diego Bay and Downtown San Diego’s skyline. The La Jolla Concours Tour participants will then conclude their magical day with an awards ceremony.
