From Serbia to Hollywood’s Silver Screen

Serbian-born actor Tihomir “Tika” Dukic featured in three films in 2014

Every once in a while you come across another great story of the American dream coming to fruition—and Serbian-born actor and stuntman Tihomir “Tika” Dukic is the perfect example. Dukic is featured in several films this year, including “37,” “Exit Strategy” and the much-anticipated “The Equalizer,” starring Oscar-award winner Denzel Washington and Chloe Grace Moretz. A former professional boxer and kickboxer, the Los Angeles-based actor’s riveting combat scenes with Denzel Washington make for unforgettable screen time. “The Equalizer” will open the 62nd San Sebastian Film Festival on September 19 and premieres in the United States on September 26.

“It was such a huge honor to work with both Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington,” said Dukic. “Working with Antoine was an incredible learning experience, and Denzel is such an amazing actor—he was a huge inspiration for me. The whole experience was a dream come true.” Dukic also really enjoyed having the opportunity to use his wide-ranging physical skills to perform stunts in the film.

Arriving in Hollywood over a decade ago, Dukic’s charisma, unique athletic skills and extensive martial arts background earned him a reputation among the entertainment community as one of the best fitness and kickboxing coaches in Los Angeles, training the likes of a wide array of Hollywood celebrities and athletes. His access to the community, coupled with his love for film and acting, inspired him to pursue a career in his new home town.

Dukic’s striking looks, talent, work ethic and unique combat skills were noticed by casting agents and directors, leading to a prolific commercial acting career and foray into feature films, such as First Strike, Swishbucklers and a cameo in “Battleship.” “The Equalizer” is Dukic’s second film with renowned “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua—he also appears in “Exit Strategy” (2014), in which he has a memorable fight scene opposite Ethan Hawke.

Dukic is currently attached to two additional projects scheduled for 2015, the zombie film “Punk’s Undead and “Victrix,” an epic drama of Rome’s empire in Britain. The recently released film, “37,” is a timely and compelling drama about Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

In addition, Dukic has appeared as a principal in numerous commercials for brands including GMC, McDonald’s, Showtime, Snickers and Verizon, among others.

“The Equalizer” is in theaters Friday, September 26, 2014.
