What better way is there to support a good cause than a sunset run (or walk) in beautiful Solana Beach? On Saturday, Nov. 14, the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation will be hosting its second annual Solana Beach Sunset 5K to benefit diabetes prevention efforts. Hundreds of Southern Californians attended last year, bringing the community together for a great cause. This year’s event will include a health and wellness expo, free goodies, kids’ activities, and live music—all designed to make fitness fun for people of every age.
The event will kick off at 2 p.m. at Fletcher Cove, with registration and a health and wellness expo, followed by the 5K at 3 p.m.—with plenty of time to enjoy the coast before the sun sets. There’s still time to sign up online for $45/person (or $49/person day-of).
The SDCMS Foundation is widely known for its network of volunteer specialists and surgeons caring for low-income San Diegans without health insurance, including physician volunteers providing pro bono care to patients with diabetes. Last year, the agency’s board of directors identified a need for diabetes prevention designed for its medically underserved target population. The Solana Beach Sunset 5K Run/Walk was launched to support this diabetes prevention program, and returns for its second year to address the growing need.
Partners include: The County of San Diego, Live Well San Diego, The Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce, UC San Diego, The Doctor’s Insurance Agency, The City of Solana Beach and The San Diego County Medical Society.
