Food, Music & Movies at Street Food Cinema
Outdoor movies beneath the stars on blankets and folding chairs, hot food from gourmet food trucks complemented by your favorite beverage is fast becoming a seasonal rite of passage for Southern Californians.
Launched in 2012, Street Food Cinema features 50 events every Saturday for 27 weeks through October 31. Now the largest outdoor movie series in Los Angeles, its unique blend of pop culture films, hot new music groups, interactive games, and the best variety of gourmet street food is creating enthusiastic competition for space on the rolling green lawns with unobstructed views of the stage and giant movie screen. The 11 locations are found in Culver City, Downtown, Eagle Rock, Manhattan Beach, Glendale, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Playa Vista and West Hollywood.
Every element of each al fresco-style event is curated to develop a unique take on the movie going experience. Bring your blankets, low lawn chairs, kids, friends — even the family dog in most locations, and settle in for an evening of entertainment, dining and old-fashioned conversation in the balmy ambience of the summer eves.
Movies include classics like The Interview, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Bridesmaids, Purple Rain, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Jurassic Park, The Shining, Mean Girls, Dirty Dancing, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Sandlot, Weird Science, and 10 Things I hate about You.
Among the music groups performing live are Band Meets World, Corsica Arts Club, Sara Dee, Loop Garou, Farspeaker, and The Flux Capacitors.
As for gourmet street food, you name it: Maine Lobster, Crepes Bonaparte, Modern German, Authentic Greek, Argentinean, Brazilian, Cuban, Indian, Taiwanese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Salvadorian, Filipino Fusion, plus Cajun and Sushi Burritos, Soul Food, burgers, hot dogs, BBQ, tacos, quesadillas, cerviches, even a salad truck.
