The first print edition of Southern California Life is coming out in November. As sports editor, I’m excited about the profile piece we are doing about Danny Ching. Danny is the world’s best stand-up paddler (SUP), as well as one of the world’s best outrigger paddlers. SUP is a rapidly growing sport, one that I knew little to nothing about until I had a chance to meet Danny. In our November interview, you’ll learn more about Danny, the sport and what a terrific family activity it is.
The Battle of the Paddle is an annual southern California SUP competition. This major event takes place October 4-5, 2014, at Salt Creek State Park (between Laguna Niguel and San Clemente). Many of the world’s greatest SUPers will be there and it promises to be a terrific way to spend a day or two. There is no entry fee, so for the cost of parking at the beach, you get vendors, live music, kids’ events and plenty of world-class competition. You might even have a chance to meet Danny, who says about the world of SUP, “The paddling community is inclusive and sharing. It’s a great way for families to spend time together.”
Hope to see you at Salt Creek!
