Topanga Vintage Market: Keeping the Vintage Life Alive

By Persia Goldman

Experience a relaxing Sunday in SoCal in the San Fernando Valley where everyone from artisans to antique collectors come together to explore this iconic flea market. The Topanga Vintage Market is fun for everybody, and with its friendly and welcoming vendors, attendees from all over SoCal have come to love this great community event. For only $3, the Topanga Vintage Market offers over 180 vintage and antique vendors, artwork, delicious food trucks and live music making for the perfect sunny day in Southern California. What makes this flea market so special, is the relaxing atmosphere. Walking into this market, you’ll find the friendliest vendors who love what they sell and are happy to be there as a community with their fellow vintage lovers and antique addicts.

Co-founders Patrice Curedale and Lori Rotblatt first began the Topanga Vintage Market in April 2012. Patrice spoke about how it all started when they first met when their sons were in kindergarten together at Topanga Elementary. The ladies both had a love for vintage goods. “I was more of a thrift shopper and Lori loved estate sales.” Now knowing this, they wanted to find a way to earn a living and also still be there for their kids. They first tried to sell at Long Beach and various antique malls, but soon realized that back home in the LA Valley was a community that was in need of their own flea market. The valley of the Greater Los Angeles area is such a unique place and often gets forgotten. “We provide something to this part of LA.”

The first Topanga Vintage Market event was at the Westfield Promenade in Woodland Hills. What they didn’t know, is that their opening day on a Sunday in April was also the same day as the Woodland Hills Arts and Crafts Fair down the street. Before they knew it, close to 4,000 patrons from the fair were coming down to the flea market. Soon the flea market of the LA Valley grew so big and so fast, they had to find somewhere else to host the event. With what started with roughly 65 sellers has grown to almost 200. Today, the Topanga Vintage Market is located in the heart of the SFV, just 30 minutes from Malibu one way and 30 minutes to Beverly Hills in the other.

The Topanga Vintage Market is at their 62nd market and counting, and they want to continue growing. Whether you’re a junkaholic or a hoarder with order, LA Valley’s flea market is a wonderful community event with good vibes for good times. Find cool collectables, unique antiques, and beautiful artwork from local artisans debuting their art. With chairs and shaded resting stations with water throughout the market and not to forget those amazing food trucks, the Topanga Vintage Market makes for a great Sunday whether you’re with the family or you’re on a mission to find the next hot vintage piece. It takes place on the 4th Sunday of the month, with summer hours from 8am to 2pm at Pierce College.

Location: Pierce College, Victory Blvd at Mason Ave, Woodland Hills, CA 91306

Time:  Summer hours 8am to 2pm.
